What can you do in your town or at your school?
Why not organise a Language Day at your school:
- Arrange a language cafe - taster lessons, lectures and competitions about language.
- Run a creative competition for the best postcard or poster showing linguistic diversity.
- Show movies (fiction or documentary) in different languages for different age groups. Language institutes such as Goethe Institut, Institut francais etc. or even the cultural departments of the embassies could be good starting points to lay your hands on some suitable films.
- Exhibit information about studying and working abroad.
- Learn some words in all the languages that are represented among the pupils at your school.
- Organise an exhibition about countries where your school has partners.
- Invite performers from a city you have a partnership with.
- Organise an exhibition of books and magazines from other countries at the school library.
- Arrange for the authors of relevant books on languages or languages and cultural identity to read to your students and discuss with them.
- Invite recruiters from local companies with international business relations, the local employment or EURES centre to speak about the importance of language skills for future job prospects
- Cooperate with the school cantine and serve food from other countries.
