Passport to Reading

16 June 2008 to 7 December 2008
As part of European Year of Intercultural Dialogue and the UK National Year of Reading, all 17 of Plymouth's Libraries will participate in a challenge aimed at attracting readers to try titles by a range of European authors. Every participant will be given a "Passport" and asked to read 6 books chosen from French, Spanish, German, English, Scandinavian, Italian, Irish, Eastern Europan and Other Countries booklists. Each time a book is completed, the Passport will be stamped with a sticker for the chosen country. The idea is to try to get 6 different stickers in the Passport by the end of the Challenge, which will run until December 2008. Successful participants will be rewarded with a token for a free beverage courtesy of Starbucks coffee shops. The Challenge will launch during the National Year of Reading's "Reading Escapes" month, on June 16, at an event which will also feature heavily on travelling in Europe. A local travel agent will be offering travel advice on European breaks, and relevant Europe Direct literature will be on display.
