Development Youth Prize competition

30 October 2007

The Development Youth Prize is a competition in which young people aged 16-18 from EU Member States can participate by submitting artworks to highlight development co-operation in Africa. Submissions can be made as posters or multimedia presenations. Pupils can submit their entries online or send them by post.

The national winners and runners-up in each country will be invited together with their teachers for a two-day stay in Brussels. This visit will include a prize-giving ceremony where pupils will be awarded their prizes. The winners will also join the EC Commissioner Mr Louis Michel on a visit to an African country, for a very special opportunity to see how development co-operation between Europe and Africa works on the ground.

The Ministries of Foreign Affairs in all the EU Member States have already been informed about this competition. Furthermore the Ministers of Education and Development in all the European countries are asked to take part in the first phase of the evaluation process that will be co-ordinated by European Schoolnet in Brussels. A grand jury that includes experts in development education, arts and ICT will select the national winners and runners-up.

The deadline for submissions will be 6 January 2008.
