A World Tonight special programme is to be broadcast on BBC Radio 4 , December 29th, 2006 at 22.00.
As Bulgaria and Romania bring the European Union's member nations to a total of 27 , Robin Lustig chairs a debate at the European Parliament : " Is it time for Europe to stop enlarging? ".
MEPs from old and new member countries , from opposite ends of the political spectrum debate the biggest issue facing Europe in a Westminster style debate , with interventions and interruptions and even cries of " Order , order " from the Chairman.
According to producer, Jeremy Hayes , the MEPs took to yah boo politics with enthusiasm .
" Perhaps it was all thanks to Nigel Farage in full Eurosceptic flow , but the results were every bit as bracing as the House of Commons in full cry . And with MEPs from seven countries and all shades of the political spectrum engaging , it proved that enlargement really is the topic that they are all talking about " .
