The European Commission's Representation in the UK was delighted to welcome Countess Mountbatten of Burma to the exhibition Father's Footsteps at its offices in London on 20 June 2007.
The exhibition, by Project Surprise, traces Alan Shrubshall's extraordinary post-war journey from HMS Surprise in Malta, through mainland Europe, and back to England where he was demobbed. Alan's daughter Catherine followed in her fathers footsteps fifty years later with a group of artists, and documented the journey with music.
HMS Surprise was completed as a dispatch vessel in 1945 for use of Royal Navy's then Commander-in-Chief, Lord Louis Mountbatten, the Countess's father.
The exhibition continues at 8 Storey's Gate, London SW1 until Friday, 29 June 2007.
