The Network Theatre Company, based in the Network Theatre, is a club for people interested in all aspect of live theatre. The company was originally founded as the Southern Railway Dramatic Society in 1939 and has been going strong ever since. Whilst maintaining its traditional link with the rail industry, the company welcomes new members from all walks of life.

Our theatre now has a licensed club bar, open on performance nights and for other company events. Why not come along and see one of our upcoming performances? The theatre is also used by other groups, such as the Civil Service and Eurostar Pantomimes. The theatre is leased from Spacia, part of Network Rail, and we are indebted to them for their continuing support. Situated under Waterloo Station, with rehearsals usually two evenings a week, the theatre is convenient for commuters and Londoners alike and all are welcome. Most productions include at least one newcomer and often more, either onstage or backstage. The company welcomes everyone who would like to take part in all areas of amateur theatre. It's a friendly and relaxed group; we don't believe in holding nerve-wracking auditions in order for you to become a member.

If you feel you have any acting ability or want to develop your talents, why not audition for one of our future productions? Dates of forthcoming auditions can be found elsewhere on this site.

It doesn't all take place ON stage; without scenery, props, costumes, lighting, sound and a backstage crew, a show does not get off the ground. We are always looking for assistance in these areas of the performing arts, and in front of house activities such as box office and bar. Even if you feel you don't want to act you can still play a key role AND have a great time socialising and making new friends.

The company also runs a programme of informal play readings and workshops throughout the year. It's a great way to try your hand at different characters and accents without the stress of being in front of an audience!

Extra Facilities

The Network Theatre is available for booking by external companies, though the diary does tend to fill quite quickly. The diary is now almost completely full for all evenings through to the end of 2006. We are taking bookings for 2007 now.

Use of the theatre during the day is not currently fully booked , so if you are a professional company in need of a space to rehearse in central London, this may be the perfect venue for you.

The theatre has a fully modern lighting system, sound system, talkback and video playback to the dressing rooms. It seats up to 70 people, and the stage is made up of reconfigurable rostra. The theatre is licensed for regulated entertainment and supply of alcohol under a Club Premises Certificate. We can operate the bar for suitably qualified organisations.

Further details, including standard rates, theatre dimensions and other technical details are available from our Forward Planning Officer (diary@networktheatre.org).
