Welcome to the European Information Network in the South West of England

These pages provide details of information providers based in the South West who can answer all types of enquiries that you might have about the European Union, plus local European events, news and links to further information sources.

The South West is the largest region in England, and one of the most varied. It covers an area 23,837 sq km from Gloucestershire, Dorset and Wiltshire to the Isles of Scilly.

The South West is predominantly rural with a number of major urban centres; principal centres include Bristol, Bournemouth, Poole, Plymouth, Swindon, Gloucester, Torbay, Cheltenham and Exeter. The urban and rural parts of the region combine to provide a diverse economic base for the region while creating distinct regional disparities. The West of England (the former county of Avon) contributes one quarter of the region's Gross Value Added (GVA) with Bristol alone accounting for almost half of this. Cornwall contributes the least at 6.8%. Growth is slower in the counties of Devon, Dorset and Gloucestershire.
