Sirenos 2009, Vilnius, Lithuania

Organised for the first time four years ago, the Sirenos festival has become a showcase opportunity for new and alternative theatre.

In 2008, the festival is a part of a series of events that prepare Vilnius to take over the European Capital of Culture year in 2009.

The festival was named Sirenos, or "Sirens", in honour of the ancient mythological women who tempted passing sailors with their mesmerising song.

Various theatre groups from United Kingdom, Belgium, Estonia, Norway, Italy, Germany and Lithuania entertain guests over the month offering a colourful view to the latest developments in European theatre.
