Education & Training

This website provides an overview of the activities of the European Commission in the field of education and training, including information on the various programmes available to EU citizens, such as Erasmus, Socrates and Leonardo da Vinci.

Socrates

Socrates is the European Commission's education programme, which involves around 30 European countries with the shared aim of creating a "Europe of knowledge". It was set up to promote lifelong learning, language learning and access to education for all. Socrates provides grants for individuals who wish to study, teach or carry out a placement or training course in another European country. It also offers support for educational establishments in organising projects on European topics and in taking part in exchanges.

Erasmus

Erasmus is a European Commission educational programme for higher-education students, teachers and institutions. It enables students in 31 European countries to study in another country for part of their degrees. Teachers can also apply to take part in teaching spells abroad.

Youth Programme

The YOUTH programme is the EU's mobility and non-formal education programme targeting young people aged between 15 and 25 years in 31 European countries. The Programme offers young people a range of possibilities, such as group exchanges and voluntary work for individuals. Connect Youth is the agency responsible for implementing the EU's YOUTH programme across the UK.

This portal offers useful information to students, job seekers and workers on all aspects of training and education available throughout Europe. Training for open youth work

Click here to download documents on various training topics or take part in a discussion forum on youth and training issues with other young people from all over Europe. This project has been part-funded by the European Commission.

The Prince's Trust European Programme

If you are aged between 18 and 25, you could apply to The Prince's Trust European Programme and spend up to three weeks in another European country learning a new skill or simply experiencing another culture.
